1a) Network Diagram Gantt Chart: Critical Path The critical path for the Nottingham Rugby Stadium project is: Clear site – Drive support piles – Pour lower concrete base – Build roof supports – Construct roof – Install roof – Inspection This means these activities have no slack and therefore any delay in them will lead to the whole project being delayed. Project Duration The project commences on the Monday June 2nd 2008, and finishes on Friday January 14th 2011, which means work covers 670 days. Milestones Milestones are shown on the Gantt chart with a pink star, and on the network diagram as a diamond shape. These are the key tasks at which the project team should assess its progress. Therefore the construction team can carry on working in any weather which could overcome the delay. This is a common problem for projects in England for example work to widen a bridge on the M1 was delayed due to cold weather as â€Å"low temperatures brought work to a halt† (BBC News, 21.3.08). The shelter will cost money and time to put up and the PM will have to assess whether this option would be worthwhile, and even possible, for the completion of the project. Related to this point is the option that the PM could re-negotiate the terms of the penalty imposed on West Construction. For example if the penalty is caused by something out of the team’s control e.g. bad weather then the penalty should be reduced or shared between West Construction and Nottingham Rugby Football Club. Also in terms of the ‘time’ aspect of the project the PM could shift resources e.g. people, equipment, etc, from non-critical to critical activities i.e. the critical path. It is frequently required to re-estimate the duration and staffing requirements of the critical path as the project progresses and changes occur (Kumar, 2005). The non-critical activities could then be allowed to consume their slack which will not affect theShow MoreRelatedGantt Chart1663 Words   |  7 PagesGantt Chart Introduction.
